Keeping Connected
Getting older does not mean the end of ambitions!
Anglicare is piloting a new program for older people who remain in their own homes. Keeping Connected will improve older people’s physical health and emotional wellbeing.
Keeping Connected helps an initial 50 older people in Adelaide’s central and western suburbs. It addresses the issues which lead to social isolation.
Some of the barriers to getting out and about are physical – it’s too far to get to the bus, or the footpath is too uneven. Some older people have lost confidence and are too scared to go out because they need a toilet close by, or have to carry medication.
Keeping Connected participants are from Anglicare’s Central Western Care At Home program. A program co-ordinator will visit each participant and work with them to meet their own goals and re-establish their links with the community.
Anglicare chief executive Lynn Arnold said “we hope to increase the reach of Keeping Connected across Adelaide once this pilot comes to an end.”
