About Foster Care

Foster carers provide a home for children who are unable to live safely with their own family. They provide a secure, safe environment that caters for the physical and emotional needs of young people ranging in age from birth to 18 years.

Foster care can be for short periods or long term, or as respite care on weekends either at the carer's home or another location. These types of foster care mean that carers do not need to be available full-time. Many carers combine the challenging and rewarding work of fostering with other commitments.

There is a growing need for carers. Enquiries from potential new carers are always welcome.

Becoming an Anglicare foster carer

On any night in Adelaide, around 600 children are cared for by Anglicare foster carers as part of our Alternative Care program. Anglicare is South Australia's largest provider of general foster care and is always looking for new carers

Foster carers can be single people or couples, with or without children already in the home, and can be working or studying. You will also need to be at least 25 years old (or 22 for the Break Away House) and be willing to undergo assessment and training.
